Personal income tax season 2025
All taxpayers who have not received an auto assessment on their personal income tax, can now submit their returns. The deadline for submissions is 20 October 2025.
What if I don’t agree with my auto assessment?
If you do not agree with your auto assessment, you can resubmit your tax return. This will be in the case where SARS does not have all your details. Typically SARS will have copies of IRP5’s, IT3 details from financial institutions where interest or dividends have been received and medical aid info. If you have any additional income, this will have to be added to the tax return.
Also, in cases where a taxpayer is eligible for deductions against commission earned or where home office expenses can be claimed, it will have to be added to the tax return.
Audit/reviews of personal income tax returns
If your tax return has been selected for an audit or review, it is important to submit the supporting documents within 21 business days from the date of the notice. It is also very important to submit all the requested documents. Not submitting all the documents can lead to an additional assessment where some of the deduction won’t be allowed by SARS.
Dispute
If SARS has performed an audit on your personal income tax, and you do not agree with the outcome, it is possible to do a dispute.
