Admin Boss: June 2026 Compliance & Deadlines

South Africa Tax Filing 2026 infographic showing SARS filing dates, CIPC annual returns, UIF registration reminders and business compliance checklist by Admin Boss.

As June 2026 kicks in, it’s time for Admin Boss to remind South African business owners about key compliance deadlines. To avoid penalties and keep your company in good standing, use this checklist of tasks. Stay organized, mark these dates in your calendar, and get ahead of the rush.

SARS Tax Filing Season 2026 – Mark Your Calendar

SARS has announced the 2026 filing season dates. Notably, Auto-Assessment taxpayers can file from 1–12 July 2026, while non-provisional individuals have from 13 July to 23 October 2026 to submit returns. Provisional taxpayers (business owners, directors, freelancers) have until 22 January 2027 for their second submissions. Admin Boss advises all taxpayers to update their eFiling profile (banking, contact info) before 1 June, as SARS recommends. Gathering your IRP5 certificates, receipts, and supporting documents now will make filing easier. Use a calendar or reminder system (Admin Boss uses one-week alerts before deadlines) so you’re ready when filing season opens.

  • 1 July 2026: Auto-Assessment filing opens. Update your eFiling profile by 1 June to ensure SARS has your latest details.
  • 13 July 2026 – 23 Oct 2026: Individual and non-provisional taxpayer deadline.
  • 13 July 2026 – 22 Jan 2027: Deadline for provisional taxpayers and trusts.
  • Admin Boss Tip: Check SARS updates closely. They simplify forms and now even offer WhatsApp updates.

By planning ahead, you’ll “prepare before everyone else,” as Admin Boss likes to say. (Indeed, “Successful businesses don’t wait for deadlines; they prepare before everyone else.” – Admin Boss Motto.)

CIPC Annual Returns – File on Time

If your company or close corporation exists, don’t forget the annual return. Unlike tax returns, CIPC deadlines roll on your company’s incorporation anniversary. South African law requires you to file the annual return within 30 business days of that anniversary. For example, if your company was registered on 15 June, you must file by around end of July (30 business days later). Missing this deadline can trigger penalties and even deregistration. Admin Boss recommends setting an annual reminder one month in advance of your anniversary to gather any updated details (shareholders, addresses, etc.) and pay the fee.

  • Who must file: Every company (Pty Ltd, Ltd, CC, NPC, SOC, etc.) – even dormant or non-trading entities.
  • When due: Within 30 business days after your company’s registration date each year. (This is a rolling deadline, not a calendar date.)
  • Action: Log in at the CIPC portal before your due date, confirm/update company info, declare any Beneficial Owners (required under recent law changes), pay the fee, and submit.
  • Consequences: Late filings incur daily penalties and compliance flags. If you ignore it, CIPC may deregister your company.

Admin Boss clients find it helpful to use accounting software or reminders for the anniversary rather than year-end. If you have any doubts, check your official CIPC notice or the CIPC on annual returns for the exact due dates.

UIF & Payroll – Register Early

Hiring your first employee? Then Admin Boss reminds you: register for UIF (Unemployment Insurance Fund) immediately. Legally, once you employ someone for 24+ hours per month, you must register with SARS and the Department of Labour for UIF. Per the Unemployment Insurance Act (No. 63 of 2001), all employers must register and contribute to UIF. Through payroll, the employer and employee each contribute 1% of the salary to UIF (total 2%) monthly.

  • Register for UIF: If you’ve hired anyone (temporary or permanent), go to uFiling or SARS eFiling to register. SARS confirms that any employer who is registered for PAYE must also register for UIF.
  • Monthly PAYE/EMP201: Remember to declare and pay EMP201 (EMPLOYERS’ TAX) each month. SARS requires you to submit your EMP201 declaration and payment by the 7th of the following month (or last business day if the 7th is a weekend/holiday). This covers PAYE, UIF, and SDL together. For example, the June 2026 EMP201 must be filed and paid by 7 July 2026.
  • Payroll records: Admin Boss recommends keeping accurate payroll files: employment contracts, payslips, deductions. If SARS audits you, you’ll need these.

By staying current on payroll registrations and monthly filings, you ensure employees can claim UIF benefits if needed, and avoid non-compliance notices. Admin Boss clients often use cloud payroll software to automate EMP201 submissions and UIF payments on time.

Admin Boss Monthly Checklist for June

Before the month closes, tick off these quick tasks:

  • Update SARS Profile: Log into SARS eFiling and confirm your banking and contact details (especially important before filing season).
  • Gather Tax Documents: If you’ve earned interest, dividends, or have medical aids, get your IT3(a) tax certificates and IRP5s ready for filing.
  • Check Annual Submissions: Did you complete your EMP501 reconciliation and issue IRP5s by 31 May? If not, do it now (it’s overdue by admin time!). Plan for the next EMP501 (due end-Oct).
  • Mark Key Dates: Note all July deadlines: SARS filing season opening (1 July), first provisional tax (31 Aug), CIPC return windows, etc. Set calendar reminders at least a week early.
  • Review Compliance: Are your UIF and SDL payments up to date? Are all employees declared on EMP201 each month? Now’s a good time to audit last month’s submission.
